A Day On The Bike

We are very lucky to live in a state that has the type of weather that allows us to enjoy the great outdoors. This thought came to my mind recently while enjoying a motor bike ride with a group of friends through the foothills of Perth down to the Southwest.

Mundaring

We headed off from the bottom of Greenmount Hill up to Mundaring and out through the weir into the state forest. The forest put on a spectacular display of greenery due to the recent out of season wet weather making everything fresh and new. As we rode past the number 1 pump station I was reminded that it is now over 100 years since water was first pumped from Mundaring to the Goldfields. What a terrific feat of engineering.

Our ride then took us through the foothills to Albany Highway and through the back roads to Jarradale where we stopped for a quick regroup and coffee. We then set off over some winding roads across the Serpentine Dam which is looking like it could do with a bit more water.

We managed to find some of the best roads in the district for riding a motorbike on with sweeping bends and beautiful scenery that took us through to Dwellingup. The town was alive with motor bike groups everywhere obviously taking advantage of the great weather and roads. It is amazing how many people are out and about on motorbikes when you get out and have a look.

The last leg of our ride took us through The Baden Powell camp grounds where many family groups were enjoying themselves and the scenery was fantastic. We wound our way through some even windier roads to come out eventually on the South West Highway at Waroona. We all enjoyed a lunch and drink at the local hotel and after the telling of many stories and events we bid farewell to each other to make our way home.

As I stated at the beginning I feel we are extremely lucky to have what we have in Western Australia and the climate to enjoy it most of the time. There is no need to sit at home wondering what to do with your time when you have everything at your fingertips. Get out there and have some fun!
